Energy Efficiency

CFL BulbLow-energy light bulbs offer a great energy and cost saving alternative to traditional incandescent bulbs. Most compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are designed to fit in to existing lamps and lighting fixtures in your home and provide the same level of visible light while using much less electricity than incandescent bulbs do.

On average, a fluorescent bulb will use approximately $30 less in electricity costs and save 2,000 times its own weight in greenhouse gases, making them a cheaper and more environmentally friendly option for your lighting needs.

Traditional incandescent bulbs are rated with a life span of 750 to 1,000 hours. Fluorescent bulbs have a rated lifespan of 6,000 to 15,000 hours which offers the added benefit of the convenience of not having to purchase and replace the light bulbs in your home as often. Because fluorescent bulbs use significantly less electricity, an average of one fifth to one third less, they produce less heat than incandescent and in turn reduce the workload of the air conditioning in your home, meaning even more savings on your electricity bills. A U.S. article stated, "A household that invested $90 in changing 30 fixtures to CFLs would save $440 to $1,500 over the five-year life of the bulbs, depending on your cost of electricity. Look at your utility bill and imagine a 12% discount to estimate the savings."
